Remember that little clownfish who swam across an entire ocean to find his way back home?
Sometimes I think we’re all a bit like Nemo – swimming through all sorts, navigating currents of
change, learning that ‘home’ might not be where we left it.
What does it mean to belong when your heart feels like a traveler between worlds? When the
spaces that once held you safe now feel like borrowed clothes that no longer fit?

Belonging.
Such a simple word for such a complex yearning.
Like water seeking its level,
Like birds knowing their way home,
We too are always searching.

Many mornings on my prayer walk by the ocean, I’m reminded that even waves belong
somewhere. They crash and retreat, dance and flow, each finding its own rhythm in the vast
expanse. And I wonder – isn’t this what we’re all doing? Finding our rhythm in this vast human
experience?

Sometimes life breaks us open. Our carefully constructed beliefs crumble, Trauma leaves its
footprints on our souls, and suddenly, the map we’ve been using no longer leads us home. In
these wilderness moments, when nothing feels familiar, we gasp for air like fish out of water,
longing for a safe harbor.

But here’s what I’ve learned about belonging – it’s not always about finding your way back.
Sometimes it’s about gathering the courage to create something entirely new.

Like a phoenix rising from ashes,
Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon,
We too must transform our pain into flight.

We need spaces where our questions don’t echo alone in the dark. Where our doubts are met
with understanding nods, not judgment. Where our hearts can exhale fully, knowing they’re in
the company of fellow travelers who understand the journey.

The path to new belonging isn’t linear. It curves and twists like a river finding its way to the sea.
It requires us to be brave enough to land in unexpected places, to reimagine what ‘home’
means when all our old definitions have been washed away.

You see, belonging isn’t just about finding your place. It’s about creating space.
Space for your whole self.
Space for your evolution.
Space for others who, like you, are seeking shelter in the storm.

To those still searching, remember:

Even stars cluster together in the vast night sky.
Even trees intertwine their roots beneath the soil.
Even oceans are made of countless drops finding their way home.

You are not alone in this seeking.
Your heart knows the way.
Trust its beating drum.
Follow its rhythm home.
